Project Education 4.0: Living Labs for the Students of the Future

On the 9th of February, University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest launched the project Education 4.0: Living Labs for the Students of the Future together with four international universities. The project addresses the skills and services necessary to the digital industry of the future and will develop an international network of interconnected labs which offer flexible options for digital study to Master and PhD students.

The project represents the launch of a collaborative platform with the industry – that can use the research infrastructure and the human resource prepared for the industry 4.0 – and with other universities that can contribute to the expansion of the network with their research facilities.

Using the living labs and the platform, students, researchers and teachers will benefit from IoT infrastructure and extensive data sets. Additionally, the project will offer educational support documents and digital content to help the benefficiaries be up to date in using the latest IoT technologies in a practical context.

On the occasion of the project launch, Mihnea Costoiu, Rector of University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest and Project Manager, stated: „ I am confident this project will be a great success both in terms of education and for the collaboration with companies. We are interested in the use of IoT not only to  develop the UPB Smart Campus, but also because the set of skills and competences generated by the project will be in great demand in the world of work and will facilitate diverse and impactfull jobs for the students.

I wish to extend my gratitude to the team of the project for their involvement and professionalism – the technical team and the experts from the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science who created an impresive architecture at the base of this project.”

The partnership, under the coordination of University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest comprises expereienced universities in the field of IoT and Data Engineering: University NOVA of Lisbon (Portugal), University Politecnica delle Marche (Italy), National University of Distance Learning from Madrid (Spain) și University of Tel Aviv (Israel).

The project is cofinanced by the European Commission through the Erasmus+ programme: Partnership in Higher Education (KA220-HED), and will have a duration of 36 months.
